Motor Milestones Baby

The motor development of the baby begins in the womb. But it's a long way from the first reflexes to walking and dexterous handling of objects. Babies go through quite a few motor milestones along the way and never stop learning new things. While motor skills in the first month are mostly limited to reflexes, by the second month, legs and arms are often kicking and hands clenched into fists are opening. By the fourth month, many of the little rascals can already grasp things and bring them to their mouths, and soon they will also be able to reach out and turn onto their stomachs. Many more motor milestones follow, which the new parents are sure to follow with interest. When the time comes and the new earth inhabitant reaches one of his many motor milestones, it is nice to capture these moments to share them later. With Meilim, you create a personalized diary for your baby that collects all the milestones and experiences and keeps them for eternity.

Baby

A child is considered an infant, also called a baby, from the 29th day of life until the twelfth month. However, the term baby is also used to refer to children from birth and into toddlerhood. In babyhood, children learn many important new skills and develop strongly. In the course of the first year, they learn to hold their own head, speak their first words and take their first steps. But even infants - like all people - are individuals. They are different and already have unique character traits. Thus, there is a wide range of quite normal variations in how a baby can develop and in which order it can learn skills. For parents in particular, infancy is an exciting time, as there are an incredible number of exciting milestones to experience with their child.

Milestones

A milestone is a special event in an undertaking or project, it could also be described as a stage on a route. Here, the date of achievement is usually not yet known exactly, or is at least not in the foreground. With a milestone, the progress of a process can be observed and quantified to a certain extent. If it concerns complex or very complex procedures, milestones also serve to divide the procedure into sections around a better overview to receive. Milestones are often seen as partial goals and their achievement is often celebrated. In children, there are also many milestones to be observed in the first year. Important milestones in motor development include lifting the head, crawling and learning to walk. In addition, the baby's language development progresses in leaps and bounds during the first year, and he or she begins to perceive and interact with his or her environment more and more effectively and attentively. There are now also numerous apps and tools that track and document the achievement of milestones, so there are apps like Meilim, which documents a baby's milestones to share with friends and family and review later.

Motorics

The term motor skills refers to the set of all movements of the human body. A distinction is made between gross motor skills and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills include movements of the head, shoulders, trunk, pelvis, arms and body. Gross motor skills are for the overall movement of the body, i.e. walking, running or hopping. The movement of fingers, toes and face belong to the fine motor area, this is the foundation for various precise skills such as the regulation of the speech muscles or delicate work with the fingers and hands. The development of motor skills begins even before birth. A fetus already shows spontaneous movements that are not exclusively controlled by reflexes. For example, many mothers discover lolling, stretching and yawning in their growing child as early as between the 12th and 16th week of pregnancy. From birth onward, a steady increase in motor performance can be observed.
